Mapping the civil society in the Pelagonia region

On March 8, 2019, in the Millenium Hotel in Bitola, MCIC (sponsored by the EU Delegation in the Republic of North Macedonia) organized an event for the civil sector to discuss the problems that arise in the overall life (work, employment, education, culture, ecology, health ...). The meeting was led by the representative from MCIC - Risto Karajkov. Representatives of two organizations from Bitola, Prilep, Krushevo and Resen attended the talks, and Mobility Bitola was presented by the President and the Secretary, who actively participated in the event. After the presentation of the participants, the leader proposed the three basic themes, which are: the scope of work of the civil society organizations, the successes in the work and the problems and challenges they face during the activities. The work was carried out by groups, networking by activities and ways of acting on issues. For each topic, each group had a panel listing the basic directions of action, successes and challenges they encountered in the activities. Mobility Bitola presented its thoughts regarding the activity in the work, the successes and the challenges it faces. Our successes so far: 1. A dialogue has been established with the government to improve overall lives of people with disabilities; 2. Introduction of the rights of people with disabilities in everyday life (right to mobility); 3. Greater representation in the mass media of associations that are fighting for the rights of persons with disabilities; 4. Participation in the preparation of the alternative report to the UN in exercising the rights of persons with disabilities contained in the Convention (that our country ratified in 2011). Problems/challenges were listed as follows: 1. Ruthless implementation of the rights contained in the Convention which is part of the judicial system; 2. The Government should be instructed to introduce all positive legal regulations and by-laws; 3. Permanent observation of the civil society; 4. Use of knowledge from released investigative journalism in the true sense of the word.
